“I don’t believe that if you do good, good things will happen. Everything is completely accidental and random. Sometimes bad things happen to very good people and sometimes good things happen to bad people. But at least if you try to do good things, then you’re spending your time doing something worthwhile.” – Helen Mirren
Through circumstance, I find that God talks back.
Today, my Grandmother’s injury is mostly healed. She broke her ankle in two places and has had to wear a boot for the last six weeks. What is ironic here is the fact I had removed my boot two weeks prior…
Anyway, my job situation opened life up in ways I wasn’t expecting. The most obvious was being around to take care my family’s matriarch. It also serves as unwritten payback for her service in my childhood. In other words, I wouldn’t be here without her.
In addition, I have had time to assess myself. I learned that I interpret freedom as my worst enemy. Because it is easier to walk into a system, educate yourself on how it works, and conquer it.
Without said system, I am re-educating myself on what makes me tick. All of the good things came from what people approved which told me how much I actually care about what others think. I have been influenced in this way most of my thirty years.
Whether I accept it or not, newfound freedom provides an opportunity to live differently. What I do with that knowledge, I am not sure.
And it is the reason I won’t make the usual platitude…
All I will I say is: From this day forward, I’ll try.
Bye for now, KS.
